The engraved decoration and elaborate grip cast in high relief are attributed to Louis D. Nimschke (active ca. 1850–1900), an artist often employed by the New York firm of Schuyler, Hartley and Graham, which produced the case for this set. The name of its owner, Benito Valdeavellano (1823–1903, Lima, Peru), is engraved on the revolver and on the case.
